Amazing Heavens

Earth and Space: Photographs from the Archives of NASA puts some of our most magnificent space imagery in context, and it’s enough to make anyone feel like just the tiniest little speck of stardust. It’s great! Here’s a peek inside.

Sinkhole of St Albans

A massive sinkhole has opened up on a street in St Albans, forcing the evacuation of several families from their homes in the night.

The 66ft (20m) diameter hole spread across a front garden and driveway on Fontmell Close and is 33ft (10m) deep.

Hertfordshire County Council said five homes were evacuated and 20 people were taken to a centre set up at the nearby Batchwood Sports Centre.

fitness without exercise?

Scientists are working on an “exercise pill” so you never have to work out again

Imagine if, instead of sweating on the treadmill and forcing yourself through repetitive sit-ups, you could have the benefits of exercise without any of the effort. That scenario isn’t a ridiculous fantasy but a serious scientific goal, and researchers have recently published a major breakthrough: They have created a blueprint of the molecular reactions to exercise.

Gatekeepers

(1 Chronicles 9:18) 18 and until then he was at the king’s gate to the east. These were the gatekeepers of the camps of the Levites.

Temple Gates. East Gate. Nehemiah’s reconstruction account tells us that the keeper of the East Gate shared in the repair work. (Ne 3:29) Thus the East Gate is not designated as a gate in Jerusalem’s wall, as some have thought. The East Gate may have been approximately in line with the Inspection Gate in the city wall. This gate is evidently the one mentioned in 1 Chronicles 9:18 as “the king’s gate to the east,” ” being the gate where the king went into or came out from the temple.

Stress Hormone

We’ve all had those weeks where crazy amounts of stress leave us soothing our woes with late-night ice cream binges. But before your shame-spiral over your lack of self-control, weak willpower isn’t the only thing at blame in these scenarios.

Meet the stress hormone cortisol, which is responsible for your body’s “fight or flight” mechanism (more on that later). It’s been called public health enemy No. 1 for its link to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, memory loss and more. And it might be responsible for weight gain and throwing your eating habits off the rails, too. Here’s how cortisol might be messing with your body—and what you can do about it.

Genealogy of Your Brain

Each of your neurons is more closely related to heart cells than to most of its neighbors. Why?

People talk about an individual’s genome as if it was a single consistent entity—but it isn’t. Every one of us actually contains a cosmopolitan melting pot of different genomes. Our 37 trillion or so cells all arose from a single fertilized egg, and as this progenitor divided again and again, its daughters picked up mutations in their DNA that distinguished them, and their descendants, from their neighbors.

meaty—vegan?

This Fruit Will Be Your New Favorite Meat Substitute
Plant-based diet practitioners are going crazy for this Southeast Asian fruit

If you think all meat substitutes are awful, you don't know jack(fruit).

In the past two decades, vegetarian cuisine has come a long way. But meat substitutes have remained stubbornly stuck in the Tofurkey-era. Aside from the development of lab-grown meat—which is still a few years away from the supermarket shelf—and pea-based burgers, vegetarians with carnivorous cravings are basically limited to tempeh, tofu, soy crumbles, and seitan.

Eat Algae?

The Next Big Sports Food Is... Algae?

Boston company ENERGYbits is selling algae strains spirulina and chlorella as the next chia seeds: power supplements that improve stamina and reduce inflammation. The algae is sold in one-calorie tablets about the size of an Advil, and the company recommends taking 30 spirulina tabs 15 to 20 minutes before exercise, then another 30 chlorella tabs immediately following in order to get algae’s full endurance and recovery benefits. Promised superhuman power as motivation, I recently found myself standing in my kitchen with a palmful of green pills, wondering if I could down them all in one gulp. (It took two.)

nuclear tsunami

ISIS planning ‘nuclear tsunami’
Nuclear annihilation across the globe. This is what a German reporter who successfully embedded with the Islamic State says the terror group is planning. Jurgen Todenhofer released his findings in a book titled “Inside IS - Ten Days in the Islamic State,” reports the UK’s Daily Express.

“The terrorists plan on killing several hundred million people. The west is drastically underestimating the power of ISIS. ISIS intends to get its hands on nuclear weapons,” says Todenhofer, calling the group a “nuclear tsunami preparing the largest religious cleansing in history.”

Issachar

The name Issachar means “He Is Wages,” or, “He Brings Wages.” It refers to how his mother Leah got the privilege of bearing him to Jacob. (Gen. 30:14-18) He was Jacob’s ninth son, and in the naming of the twelve tribes of spiritual Israel Issachar is ranked as ninth. His father Jacob likened him to a powerful, hardworking beast of burden, one that sticks to his burden, one that can take rest without getting rid of his double load. The two saddlebags may picture the burdens of peace and war that Issachar carried during the history of Israel.

False Prophets

Just incase you missed it, the End of the World Last Wednesday...
Sorry the news item reached our News Desk a little late.

Here is a copy of the notification from the 7th October 2015

It’s the end of the world as we know it. Well, that is, if you believe this online Christian group. The Daily Dot reports that an internet-based website called eBible Fellowship claims the world will end this Wednesday—which is today.

“According to what the Bible is presenting it does appear that 7 October will be the day that God has spoken of: in which, the world will pass away,” leader and founder of the fellowship Chris McCann, said. “It’ll be gone forever. Annihilated.”

About Trees

Trees play a crucial role supporting life across the globe, producing oxygen and absorbing climate change-causing carbon dioxide. But, despite the plant’s importance, humans have had little idea how many trees actually live on planet Earth.

Sons of Samuel

(1 Chronicles 6:28) 28 The sons of Samuel were Joel the firstborn and A·biʹjah the second.

The firstborn son of the prophet Samuel; a descendant of No. 2 and father of Heman the Levitical singer. (1Ch 6:28, 33, 36; 15:17) Joel and his younger brother Abijah had been appointed by their father to be judges, but their dishonesty in office gave the people an excuse to ask for a human king.— 1Sa 8:1-5.

Imitate the Gileadites

GOING out to serve as a missionary in a foreign land is not an easy thing. It means leaving behind friends, relatives and familiar surroundings. It requires adjusting to new circumstances and possibly facing unfamiliar problems. But there are abundant blessings that await those willing and able to make sacrifices in helping honest-hearted people to become devoted servants of Jehovah God.

The fifty young men and women who graduated from the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead on March 4, 1974, have reason to look forward to these blessings. This is because most of them received assignments to serve as missionaries in foreign fields.

Real Value

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art.  They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael.  They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.  When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war.  He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later there was a knock at the door.  A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.

The young man held out his package. "I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this."

Love Birds

Recently, my husband and I were walking through a local mall near closing time, when we decided to stop and take a look around the pet store. As we made our way past the cages of poodles and Pomeranians, tabby cats and turtles, our eye caught sight of something that immediately charmed us: a pair of peach-faced lovebirds. Unlike many other lovebirds we encountered there, this particular pair looked truly "in love."  In fact, they snuggled and cuddled next to each other the whole time we watched them.  Throughout the next few days, my mind returned to the image of those two delightful birds.  I admired their devotion, and felt their very presence inspiring.

Horse sense

MADELYN RYAN has an affinity for horses and a love for performing. She posed with her blue ribbons and riding horse Ashton, above. The two won several awards at a dressage show last year. Madelyn, 17, said, “We competed in Second Level and did a Musical Freestyle. We took first in every class, and at the end of the day we won high point! The musical freestyle is a lot of fun. It involves picking music that matches your horse’s gaits and personality, then you choreograph the specific, required movements for that level, and finally you put it all together. Every time we do the freestyle, it’s always a big hit at a show. Ashton and I have a really fun time with it!”

About Geese

FACT 1: As each goose flaps its wings, it creates "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
LESSON: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier, because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.

Jaʹbez

(1 Chronicles 4:9, 10) 9 Jaʹbez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother named him Jaʹbez, saying: “I gave birth to him in pain.” 10 Jaʹbez called on the God of Israel, saying: “O that you would bless me and enlarge my territory and let your hand be with me and preserve me from calamity, so that it may bring no harm to me!” So God brought about what he had asked for.

DOES Jehovah God really answer the sincere prayers of devoted worshippers? The Bible account about a littleknown man named Jabez shows that Jehovah is indeed the “Hearer of prayer.” (Psalm 65:2) This brief account is found in what might seem an unlikely place—in the midst of the genealogical lists that open the book of First Chronicles. Let us examine 1 Chronicles 4:9, 10. All that we know about Jabez is found in these two verses. According to verse 9, his mother “called his name Jabez, saying: ‘I have given him birth in pain.’” Why did she choose such a name? Did she bring forth this son with more than the usual birth pangs? Was she perhaps a widow, lamenting the fact that her husband was not there to welcome their baby into the world? The Bible does not say. But this mother would someday have reason to be especially proud of this son. Jabez’ siblings may have been upright men, but “Jabez came to be more honorable than his brothers.”

Free from Pressure

We've all seen pictures of the huge Black or Striped Marlin being hooked by fishermen, and the gruelling and exhausting duel between the strapped-in fisherman and the thrashing fish (sometimes called a Sailfish or Spearfish, and documented to reach 1,400 lbs). As the huge fish starts to tire out, he will begin to surface, breaking water in a most dramatic way, shaking his head vigorously trying to throw the hook which could very well mean his eventual death. We might well consider why he does that. It has been said that the reason is that with the pressure under the water, he is unable to successfully sling his head back and forth, hoping to free himself by dislodging the hook. The water surrounding his head under the surface limits his ability to escape the line.

Maintaining Peace and Security?

High-level thematic debate: Maintenance of International Peace and Security

Opening remarks by Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, President of the  70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. at high-level thematic debate: Maintenance of International Peace and Security
 1 October, 2015

The desire for lasting peace was the driving force behind the birth of the United Nations 70 years ago. Peace, as you all know, is not simply the absence of conflict. It is a mind-set. And it is also about how we prevent conflicts, respond to threats and recover from them.

insomnia because of genetics?

Women are known to suffer more from sleep disturbances, partly thanks to raising young children and hormonal fluctuations. But it turns out there’s also a genetic reason for exhaustion in women.

Hog-Nosed Rat

A New Mammal Has Just Been Discovered and It’s Called the Hog-Nosed Rat

An interesting time?

The UN follow up meetings for peace and security is May 10, 11, 2016

Are we in a special time period from October 1 through May 11, 2016?

Restraint is necessary

One windy spring day, I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Multicoloured creations of varying shapes and sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing in the heady atmosphere above the earth. As the strong winds gusted against the kites, a string kept them in check.

Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing upward and against the wind. As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say, "Let me go! Let me go! I want to be free!" They soared beautifully even as they fought the imposed restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. "Free at last" it seemed to say. "Free to fly with the wind."

Two Snakes

If we have ever seen a snake on the wild life stories, then we may remember seeing what happens when two snakes come in contact with each other. They will hiss and keep their mouth open as wide as they can. They move from side to side as they wait for an opportunity to strike.

As soon as one tires out and closes his mouth, the other snake strikes and it is all over for the other snake.

Dashboard warning light

Most of us have seen a red light come on our car's dashboard. Maybe for oil pressure, engine temperature, brake system, low fuel, etc. We can avoid much trouble by giving the needed attention to these warning light signals; as soon as possible!

There is a Spiritual Dash Board Warning Lights System that each of us need to check on regularly.

What are these Warning Indicators.

Depression: A Part of this Life

Well, what are some of the causes of depression?

There could be many different things. We could be depressed over our physical condition--maybe we're not able to do what we once were or we're sickly. Could be an imbalance—if the chemicals in our brain are affecting us. Or perhaps we've had some financial reversals or a traumatic loss such as the loss of a loved one to death--or the loss of a job that we thought we'd have until we retired and one day they just let you go.

It could be that you were an innocent victim to abuse when you were younger, or even somewhat as an adult. It could even be that we're disappointed by our own shortcomings, our own sins. Maybe we've done something in the past and because of that we continue to feel that gnawing at us and causing us to feel depressed.

End of war?

U.N.
For a body committed by the preamble of its charter to eradicating war, strengthening human rights, advocating equality, and promoting “social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,” this is significant. For critics of the UN, however, it is indicative of the organization’s ongoing inability to shift priorities in the wake of sudden-onset, large-scale crises.

Virus Found in Blood Supply

Scientists have found a new virus that can be transmitted by blood transfusions and other blood-based products.

It looks a little like the hepatitis C virus, which can cause permanent liver damage, and a little like the human pegivirus, which appears to be harmless, the team reports in the journal mBio.

They've named it human hepegivirus-1 (HHpgV-1).

"We have been able to find a new virus. It's clearly transmitted as a result of human (blood) transfusion," said infectious disease expert Dr. Ian Lipkin, who oversaw the study team at Columbia University.

Accomplished

From the recording what a GB representative said in respect to the  GB's achievement in line with Matt 24:14:  (this was not recent, it was already a few years ago. In  the Watchtower 1995 September 1st said that Matt 24:14 was already fulfilled. See below) We are right there....

"The faithful slave feels that they have fulfilled Matt. 24:14 “This good news has been preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness…” what is the next part of the text says after?  Yes “…the end will come.” Do you know that there are only 3 countries in the entire world that there are no witnesses today? Only 3 countries. They are Somalia, North Korea and Afghanistan. That doesn’t mean that the literature's are not in those countries, there are no witnesses there. And some of my friends wanted to know why and I will tell you why. Jehovah does not send in His people to any environment they will be killed. That is why there are no witnesses. Those 3 countries bear community responsibilities but the good news of the kingdom has been preached. Matt. 24, Luke 21, Mark 13 & Rev. 6, those scriptures are having its fulfillment, they’ve been fulfilled. So where are you this stream of Bible prophecy? What is the next Bible prophecy to be fulfilled? The next one, do you know?
